Educational – RMIT

Project: RMIT University, Melbourne

RMIT is spread over a total of six geographically remote locations including three major campuses and over 115 buildings. These include inherited legacy building automation technologies through the construction and retrofit processes.

Scope: Implementation of integrated building and energy management systems

Status: Ongoing

Specs: Alerton Envision BMS suite with native BACnet® open communication platform including:

  • Optergy™ real time energy management systems
  • web based centralised monitoring and controls for multiple facilities
  • centralised HVAC controls, and
  • integrated real time energy metering.

The new RMIT Design Hub is a 12,000m2 building located at the corner of Victoria & Swanston Streets, and was originally part of the Carlton United Brewery site. The Hub will provide open, flexible spaces where researchers and post graduates in architecture, industrial & urban design will work alongside fabric & fashion design. ESD strategies such as rain & water harvesting, automated sun shading, photovoltaic cells, evaporative cooling and fresh air intakes will provide improved internal air quality and reduced running costs.
